Drop Ship Memory

Southern Container- a freight haul
in Connecticut on eighteen wheels,
possibly one of the shipping containers
FEMA sent to Louisiana and Mississippi
in place of demolished homes.

Somebody slapped the label on the side
and painted it magic white, but the faint
stench of mildew stayed. Maybe a few doom
struck families hid inside and jumped out
when it crossed neighboring states.

And even now muddy sleeping bags and
coat hanger tents rest on the Super dome
next to cardboard signs and mud stained
photos of those now gone, and no bones
rest on Sugar Bowl Drive.

Cross Eyed Frog

His left eye rests
above his flat nose

in silence a quick tongue
in amphibious repose

beneath a mini LED
palm tree he sits

beside an empty bottle
of Bully Hill wine

he can see what he
breathes while

the drunken right eye
scans what comes and goes.
