| | Blossom in the Basement
(for Hannah)
dried rose petals
flower cards
fell out
of old records
moved
to make room
for new life
out of light
grows a bouquet
from dark closet space unearthed
what a bright picture
passageway
flower cups
and vases of roses
are carried down
a
garden blooms
in
the cellar window well
a
young flower moves in
with her floral perfume
a
room comes alive
opening beyond flower curtains
vegetarian cooking
bunches of clothing
rearranging in the laundry
a
living wonder
falls asleep
underneath
smooth petal sheets
| | Message in Indian Summer
The season shows off psychedelics,
shouts “I'm not going quietly.
I'm not going as matter of course.
I'm rioting.”
Collect:
straw relics,
aspen gold,
chestnut horses.
Respect.
Stall cold.
Be seasonably fair.
Behold :
a final reflection in the lake.
Strength, that's what it will take.
Celebrate before the fall.
Disrobe before the chill.
I see fire before winter in your
hair.
Do not leave from a distant hill.
Do not leave at all.
I whisper to distant air...
