| | 1. The First Days of Retirement
She called,
wanted to know
what I was doing.
I told her,
"Laying in bed
trying to levitate,
been working on it
for hours,
was getting close,
now I gotta start
all over again..."
2. An Old Man at the Beach
The back
of her bikini
looked like
a little red
smile
covering
her butt.
I smiled back.
It was a private
moment –
no one
noticed...
3. A Simulated Demonstration
She sat at a front row table,
the reader opened by yelling
a cock-cunt-fuck poem,
continued to tell the audience
how good he was
and that he could out write
all of them while sitting naked
jacking-off at the computer.
He stood at the edge of the stage,
did a simulated demonstration.
She admitted being nervous,
said she felt trapped,
was very uncomfortable,
asked for advice.
All I could come up with
was,
"If you should ever
go to his house
be careful where you sit
and don't touch anything –
especially the computer."
4. A Heartbeat Away
The immediacy
of loss
is closer
than the cynics
would have us
believe.
It’s as close as,
“Why can’t she
just – love me?”
No conspiracies,
no plots, plans
or deceptions –
none of that,
it’s just a heartbeat away
from –
“...just – love me.”
and sounds a lot like,
“Why can't she...”
5. Purchasing the Proper Knife
Not one of those
fancy handled,
shinny curved
oddball made in Mexico
or China things.
This needs to be a work horse,
something
you can slice and dice
with –
cut and slash...
sturdy.
Something
that when the savage
takes hold
will do the job,
fits nicely in the pocket,
holds an edge,
opens quickly
with one hand,
is easily wiped clean,
and that DNA
doesn’t necessarily
stick to.
Something
that when dropped
in a crowd
is promptly stolen.
