1. The Midnight Mirror

I let him
take my hands.
And follow his lead
as he pulls me
back
into a light
I never remember leaving.

And I stand
unafraid
of his inspections.
Safe
in the knowledge
that I am not
what he can see.

And when he smiles,
I touch his face.
Assuming the role.
Of a ghost

he needs
to haunt his dreams.

2. When It Rains In December

Death moves with me.
Across this pillow
at night.
Touching my hair,
my eyes,
with the ash
of his withered blue tongue.

Then he rolls over,
and I am free.
Left alone in this dreamtime
to walk these unlit halls.
Shoving my shadow
further beyond his reach.

But I always remember the probabilities
as time runs endless
over his smile.
Until the distance disappears
with the harbored image
of a box
I need to lock
to live.

3. Just Rewards

look for frames with unspoken sympathies
adjust your world accordingly
sometimes i think
breakfast at seven with the right accent pieces does it fast
perfection
neon now logged over a thousand miles
there's only one solution
moisture
decidedly more sinister this universal language
but it's sure going to be hard to hide
